| Carson rebounds with rout of Washington Blackman and Sula help Colts bounce back from last week's loss with a 33-7 Marine League rout. Dave Thorpe Daily Breeze Correspondent There were no big leads surrendered, no wearing down and no hurtful penalties not caused by the team's band. Carson, a week after giving up a 14-point lead and committing several untimely penalties against San Pedro, dominated for nearly 48 minutes Friday night during a 33-7 dismantling of Washington in a Marine League game. Carson quarterback Dominique Blackman surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season by going 10-for-12 for 151 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Blackman (1,146 yards passing this season) did most of his damage in the first half, when Carson took a 21-0 lead. The 6-foot-4, 238-pound junior passed for 110 yards in the first half, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Mike Manuel. Blackman didn't throw an incomplete pass until his sixth attempt. His only other incomplete pass was a drop by a Carson receiver. "We wanted to be able to throw the ball more efficiently, and he did a great job tonight," Carson coach Mike Christensen said. By the time Blackman hit Marquis Williams for a 20-yard score late in the third quarter to give Carson (6-3, 3-1) a 30-7 lead, he was done. On the play before the touchdown, Williams made a diving catch over the middle on third-and-19 to keep the drive going and earn his shot at the end zone. "We had a game plan to get the ball to our playmakers," Blackman said. "And our receivers made some big plays." Jack Sula paced Carson's running game with eight carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first half. Steve Boyd added 11 rushes for 91 yards. Carson's defense, led by David Sausau, who made a couple of big tackles on key plays in the game, didn't wilt after allowing a third-quarter touchdown. But Carson's band almost hurt the team. The Colts' sideline was penalized 15 yards when the band kept playing during the action. Not to be outdone, Washington was penalized twice when its band kept playing during action. |
